Shangri-La Mactan's Tides & Tea of Spring

It's been a while since I've posted, I've been terribly busy with school, Muay Thai, church and life in general. I have been meaning to invite people over to guest post, however, everyone might be quite busy as well since only a few responded to me and some only to tell me that they couldn't do it or they could on a later date. I am terribly sorry! To make up for my absence, I decided to cheer you up with a food post. If you follow me on any of my social media accounts, you might already know that I went to ShangRi-La Resort and Spa in Mactan with my family last week for my sister's graduation. During our brief staycation, I was able to try Shang's famous buffet restaurant, Tides, and their Chinese cuisine specialty, Tea of Spring.

We went to Tea of Spring on the evening of my sister's graduation. It was very packed, good thing we booked a reservation early. The place was very cozy, had that high class Chinese restaurant ambiance (probably because it IS a high class Chinese restaurant). The décor was very pleasing to the eyes, I've never found crimson to be charming but I was quite taken because of their choice of wood. The interiors were
lavish.

Food vanished in seconds. No, actually, I got there late and just started eating. Sorry, guys!
The food was quite exquisite, even though I'm allergic to sea food, I couldn't help myself from gourmanding. The flavors were wonderful and rich and happiness-inducing (or the company I had was).

I loved the food and the place but the best thing about Tea of Spring, or Shangri-La Mactan in general? Their amazing, mindblowing, ego-feeding service. I seriously felt that each and everyone of their staff was committed to give me full satisfaction.

Was I the only one aware that this was supposed to be a "wacky" photo?
Just before we headed out to the beach. Say hi to cousin Keisha (C) and my sister Deb (R)
In the morning, we went to try Tides. It was moved from the original venue (across Tea of Spring) to the ballroom because of renovations. The ballroom, however did not disappoint. It was amply lit, the epitome of august and thoroughly expansive. The venue beckoned me to get married over there (if only I could afford it)

The buffet was very generous, plenty of food representing different cuisines and cultures. I feasted on bacon, ham, Filipino sausages, omelettes, yogurt, their juices (carrot, mango, orange, pineapple, lemon iced tea -- yep, I tried all of those). It was a very bad time to implement my diet. They have food for everyone, the vegans, fruitarians, carnivores, omnivores. The flavors were very delicate, easy to miss for those with undisciplined tongues. Even though you're in a rush to just consume (hey, it's a Php1,600 buffet), you have to take a moment to experience food and enjoy it. Only then will you find the perfectly placed subtle flavors that will give epicureans a run for their money.

Diet as tolerated. My Low Carb diet was on vacation as well. Seconds, anyone?
Our stay was definitely too short. There are plans that we might come back this October and if we do, I am certainly going to get my bib on for their lunch buffet (heard they have an extensive array of desserts).

I'm sorry I couldn't show you all the photos, you would die of heart attack if I did. Now, it's about time you wondered, as I did, What happens to the food not consumed after the buffet? Well, I asked a crew and she told me they donate them to an orphanage nearby. Well, thank you for being so generous not just to your clients, Shangri-La!

Definitely recommend eating at this place if you're visiting Cebu (or are from Cebu). Hope you enjoyed this post, this is just the beginning! I'll be posting about their activities and more in my future posts so stay tuned!
