If you're wondering why you haven't heard from me the previous week, wonder no more! I've been procrastinating, practicing, performing, going to church, more procrastinating and going to school the whole week. Can't even say I had time to deal with my part time job with all the procrastinating I did. Anyway, in between practices, I would call out to my food buddy, Jonathan, and we'd go food-hunting (we were going to co-blog TheTravelSpoon.com but I gave up because I was just too busy). One day we tagged Dale (future blogger, watch out for her) along and went to merienda places. Check them out:
Hanabels
(Pabayo St, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro)
This bread and pastry shop has been sitting around for awhile so Jonathan, Dale and I decided to drop in. They have breads, cake and desserts. I was giddy because I just didn't expect to find a Kagayanon silvana (Php30) there. I haven't tried one in years (not since Kylie's Bistro which was destroyed last year), and I have been dying to at least try one for my quest for the ULTIMATE CDO SILVANA REPLACEMENT SEARCH. I was a little disappointed. Kylie's had too much meringue, but this one? No trace! No no no! I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it. I'm sorry Hanabels, if you had to take something to lower the cost, you should've known better than to sacrifice the meringue! My comrades ordered two scant slices of Blueberry Cheesecake (Php95) that I enjoyed anyway so all is well.
Design. They invested on it so it's very smooth and clean. They have John 3:16 on one side of the wall (which I liked immediately). The space is rather narrow but still very tolerable. Ambiance. XU students are aplenty, and so are passers-by, or friends looking for a place to chitchat. Everybody minds their own business though so it's very private, but note that it's not a very good place to study at.
Price average Php70. Service. Good counter service, patient crew and well-mannered. However, it might take you ages if you want service water.
RedBerry
(Pabayo-Cruz Taal St, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro)
They've got everything from budget meals to pizza to bread to pastry to kakanin, all priced very affordably. While there, we tried their ALL MEAT pizza and others. The pizza is definitely a must try - cheap but you get more than your money's worth! I think it's also worth mentioning that you can charge your gadget in there for FREE (these places are so hard to find nowadays).
Design. They don't have the neatest interiors (mismatched diner chairs and tables) but they're fairly clean. Ambiance. XU students swarm the place during lunchtime to late afternoon so if you want peace and quiet, be warned that you're not going to find any there at that timeframe. If you want to try the place out without experiencing the ruckus, try going there before lunch and you just might be able to enjoy your John Green. Price. UGrad student level, meals can cost average Php50. Cheap breads around Php8. Pizzas are awesome at Php100-250. Service. Polite cashiers and laid-back servers, all very trivial.
These two had an odd way of hinting to be featured in a blog post so yeah. Hahaha xD again, Jonathan and Dale!
Disclaimer: Note that I was NOT invited to review these places. Furthermore, I NEVER lie on my reviews.
