Africa is a holiday destination that is high on most bucket lists, and for good reasons! There’s so much to do on this beautiful and huge continent, here are a few tips on how to maximize your trip.
Go on Safari
An obvious one, but an absolute must. The most popular safari destinations are in East and Southern Africa with the ‘Big Five’. Companies like Safari Club make these holidays relatively easy to book. The variety of animals and species in Africa make it a fantastic location for nature lovers. With migrating wildebeest, lions, gorillas, elephants and gazelles, it’s an amazing thing to witness.
Lazing on the beach
If you need a break from all the activities, Africa has some of the most beautiful beaches. To the East you can enjoy luxurious resorts in the Seychelles islands or the Spice Islands. North Africa has stunning coastal areas that are very popular, or head further South to avoid the crowds and join the penguins! There are also many different lakes in Africa that provide stunning backdrops for some sunbathing and relaxing.
Enjoy the Food!
Morocco and South Africa are both well known for their food, and culinary tours are abundant there. The tours involve helping to prepare food, touring fine dining restaurants and visiting local markets, sometimes with expert guides.
Volunteer
Volunteering in Africa allows you to see past the tourism, and see the real people and culture of this beautiful place. There are lots of different options, and you can commit for either a few days, weeks or months. Teaching, working and living in the community is a great way to learn more about the countries in this continent and get a feel for what Africa is really like to live in!

Mountain Hiking
Africa is perfect for hiking due to its amount of mountains and ever-changing landscapes. Obvious places are Mount Kenya, the Atlas Mountains and Mount Kilimanjaro for more experienced hikers. If mountains aren’t your thing, there are plenty of walks around the coastlines and Zambia’s walking safaris.
Go Even More Extreme!
If mountain hiking and following lions aren’t exhilarating enough for you, there are plenty of even more adrenaline pumping activities in Africa. Surfing is very popular, especially along the coastal South. Motorcycle experiences and sand-boarding are available in the Sahara Desert for those brave enough. And for those who want even more, Victoria Fall is known for being the ‘extreme capital of Africa’. Swimming up to the world’s largest waterfall, white water rafting, and bungee jumping off a bridge are all possible there. Surely that’s enough to keep even the most dangerous dare devil’s satisfied?
Africa is a beautiful continent with so many things to do and see. It has a fascinating history, and the locals are some of the friendliest in the world. Many great travel agents specialize in trips to Africa, making it cheaper and easier to book a holiday there than ever before. So, whether you’re interested in nature, beaches, or extreme sports, there’s something there for everyone!
