Who isn't excited to travel and explore a new place? If you are planning to take a long weekend or weekend trip, you'll need to pack a suitcase. While you certainly want to be prepared for the weather and have some back up items on hand, you still may wish to travel lightly and efficiently. The following tips can help you pack so that you're prepared and ready to enjoy your travels.
Make a List
When you make a packing list, you'll ensure that you won't forget anything. Check the weather for wherever you'll be traveling. You'll want to pack with the climate in mind. You'll need undergarments, outer garments, shoes, and accessories. It's always a good idea to stick to a neutral color scheme so you can mix and match layers as well as footwear. Also, when packing your items, “think of your suitcase as a three-layer cake. The suitcase is the icing; the rolled items make up the first layer”(1). As you pack your items, you will find it easier and remember to check items off of your list.
Take Care with Unmentionables
You'll certainly want to pack enough bras and panties for your trip. Bras can easily be packed by “tuck[ing] one cup into the other to make sure that your bras are protected and that you get the maximum amount of space” (2). Panties can be stacked as well. Take care so that you choose bras that complement your outfits. For instance, you may need racerback bras or strapless bras to go with the clothes you've chose for your trip.
Roll or Fold
When it comes to soft items, you can often roll them neatly. These items are likely to remain wrinkle-free when rolled in their place. Stiffer items can be folded and stacked neatly. Socks will take up less space when they are paired and placed flat, one on top of the other. It's always best to choose lightweight items as bulky garments will take up more space in your suitcase. If you can wear your bulky item (like a jacket) while traveling, so much the better.
Stack with Convenience in Mind
You can also pack with an eye toward your clothing needs. You may wish to keep pajamas on top so you'll be ready to change when you reach your destination by day's end. Then pack the next day's outfit beneath the pajamas. You'll find that packing with this order in mind makes for a better-maintained suitcase. It also helps to remind you the outfits you planned out for each day's activity.
Keep these tips in mind when you next have to travel. By putting in plenty of thought ahead of time, you can be assured of a well-organized trip complemented by all the items you need.Being prepared can help avoid unnecessary trips to the malls when you can enjoy the weather at the beach or have more time to explore your destination.
