Review: Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (Movie)

This isn't really new but I just saw the movie. I haven't read the book, not if you don't count a little snippet of it when I was hanging out at the bookstore years ago. I'm still trying to improve my review style, so everybody bear with me and my sucking at this.

Synopsis

Nick is a straight bass player in an (almost) all gay band who got her oops his heart broken three weeks (and two days and 23 hours ago) by Tris who happens Norah's schoolmate. Nick is so hung up on Tris that he still makes mix tapes for her. Norah gets a hold of them after Tris dumps them in the trash and there's this instant connection even though they've never met (blech). Norah kisses Nick in a club while trying to get Tris off her back and it goes awkward to 'what in the world?!' from there.
What I hate more than books set in 24 hours are movies set in 24 hours. The love aspect happened all too quickly, and although I admit it could happen in real life, it's still no excuse. (not their fault though, just my opinion on love and everything). The plot was well-thought of, I must say. As I said, it could happen to anybody.

Actors & Acting

I've always like Kat Dennings (especially her role as the sardonic Max in 2 Broke Girls) and Michael Cera only ever does the teenaged geek he's always portraying justice. Cera and Dennings have a noticeable chemistry together, except I just can't help notice that when they kiss, Denning's head is bigger (perhaps even way bigger) than Cera's. Aside from that, they match each other well, awkward and shy. The other members of the band aren't really gay gay for me, not that I'm excited to see boys kissing other boys. Caroline (lol, this is the second time Dennings had a friend Caroline in her roles, the other Caroline being Caroline Channing in 2 Broke Girls) made a fairly believeable drunkard but I can't believe they cast yet another nerdy guy (Jay Baruchel) as Norah's ex, Tal (what is up with you, casting people?!)

Screenplay

This has good dialogues appealing to teenaged and a more mature audience. Witty and I'm not even sure if that's Cera improvising or the screenplay rocking. Although there are some corny lines in there, the actors are good so you wouldn't even mind them (okay, I did hahaha)

Cinematography & Quality

I loved the cinematography in this. The colors and angles are outstanding and really established the mood for this film--reckless, fun and young.

Verdict

A solid four out of five. The corniness definitely caused one star to fall off, but everything else is terrific! Definitely a recommended light movie for the youngsters (ew, I sound old, lol)
