The not-so-new Healthy Food Plate!

School was fun-to-the-tas-stick! I had Nutrition, it wasn't that great. We had a revisit about the food guide pyramid but I had a feeling it's a wee bit Egyptian 10th century. But for all you non-health-conscious people out there, the food pyramid "is an outline of what to eat each day based on the Dietary Guidelines" (USDA).

To sum, it's all about this:
  •  Top most: the "Thou shalt not eat excess of" Fats, Oils and Sweets - This means chocolate, ice cream and every thing a kid wants.
  •  Go lower, on the left is: Milk, Yogurt, Cheese - two to three servings of this will suffice. I love cheese and the way it's so moldy but still so appetizing. I'm kidding.
  •  Next to the Mlik, Yogurt, Cheese group is the Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs & Nuts group, which is the group of my preference I must say. But I do agree on nutritionists that we can live with 2-3 servings of it per meal oops day.
  •  On the third level is the Vegetable group on the left. Requiring 3-5 servings per day
  •  Still on the third level, the Fruit group is located beside his brother, Veggie. 2-4 servings is recommended per day.
  • Bread, Cereal, Rice and Pasta lays on the base of this pyramid, needing 6-11 servings per day.
But really who needs a pyramid when we could all cram it in one plate? Plates, anyone?
